Textual began in
2000 when Dave Lebleu (Mercury Program) moved to Gainesville, FL and attempted
to turn his desktop into a glorified 4-track. Those experiments quickly
lead to using the computer to create music...and later turned into collaborations
with Terry Adams and Rocky Bazemore (Hydra the Sea Serpent).
As a collective the group performed a handful of shows, but never recorded
or released any material. The performances were largely improvisation
accompanied by live video or live instruments such as cello or vibraphone.
After a few months of performing, and struggling to mesh two very different
styles...the members agreed to split into Textual-now Dave's solo project,
and Hydra the Sea Serpent -Terry and Rocky's collaboration with Mike Cinelli
(live video editing).
in 2001 + 2002 Dave began working on material for a Textual full length.
He also played sporatic shows whenever he wasn't on tour with the Mercury
Program.
While working on material for the Textual full length Dave continued to
develop his style and technique, as a result, very little of the original
Textual material made it's way onto "Hindsight Sunglasses".
Over the next year Dave continued to refine the Textual sound until the
17 tracks that make up the record were complete.
In 2003, while planning a Japan tour for the Mercury Program, Stiff Slack
Records heard and agreed to release the Textual material in Japan. "Hindsight
Sunglasses" is scheduled for release sometime in March of 2004. There
are currently no plans to release the record in the US.
In addition to Textual...Dave also contributed drum tracks to the most
recent Prefuse 73 records.
